Nepal and Lete's culture

Nepal

Note: This page is about the customs and culture of Nepal overall, not specifically Lete.

Nepal has culture as vibrant and ancient as its mountains are tall. From dancing to philisophy, Nepal has all sorts of culture.

Dancing

It is said that dances in the Indian subcontinent (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) come from the abode (house, home, residence) of Lord Shiva, a Hindu god. His abode is Mt. Kailash, also called Asia's most sacred mountain. Mt. Kailash is just outside of Nepal, in Tibet, so that means the dances of the Indian subcontinent come from that area.

One notable dance in nepal is the Dishka. It includes complicated footwork, arm movements, and is preformed during weddings.

Language

There are around 123 languages that are spoken in Nepal. The most popular of these is Nepali, spoken by 44.6 percent of the population. Nepali uses the Devanagari script, like Hindi and Sanskrit.

Religion

80.6 percent of the Nepalese population is Hindi, and about 11% are Buddhist. Many people actually practice a mixture of Hunduism, Buddhism, and some local spiritual traditions. Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal, and the Hindu temple of Shiva is in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

Fun fact: Cows are very sacred to Buddhists, and are never killed or sacrificed.
